Snorkeling the Red Sea: Exploring 1 of 7 Wonders of the Underwater World
After the 2019 archaeological dig at Qumran wrapped up, I joined friends on a bonus trip to Jordan as well as Eilat, Israel. On the final day of travel, my dear friend Jonathan Price and I took dove under the surface of the Red Sea in Eilat to experience one of the 7 Wonders of the Underwater World!
Most people are familiar with the Biblical account of the Exodus, where God parted the Red Sea so that Moses and the Israelites could cross over a dry sea floor and escape the Egyptian army. But, did you know that the Red Sea also boasts some of earth's most wonderful and pristine coral reefs? An abundance of marine life lives there including the vulnerable dugong, a relative of the manatee.
I didn't see any dugongs (yet!), but I did manage to film a variety of beautiful creatures and showcase them with peaceful music in this video. I've identified many of them but would love your help in identifying the others! Tell me in the comments below if you catch any I missed.
A special thanks to Jonathan Price for making this snorkeling enthusiast's dream come true! He guides trips in Israel and Jordan, so let me know if this is your dream too.
I hope you enjoy the video! Let me know if you'd want to see more videos like this!
The videoagraphy and history surrounding the area is really neat when putting two and two together from a biblical standpoint. Made me feel as though I was there too. My go to when watching videos are hands down documentaries. Would love to hear or learn more about about the wildlife, but overall really cool experience!
Beautifully shot video. Really well-done and well-written. Reminds me of snorkeling in Panama City, Florida when I was younger (although the underwater environs weren't quite as exotic and breathtaking as what you experienced, I loved it nonetheless). Maybe next time you'll run into a dugong (if they have the temperament of a manatee, then it will be awesome).
